Phragmipedium Andean Fire

The photo of this Phragmipedium specimen was send to me by Eric Muehlbauer from Queens, New York, United States.
It shows a flower where the pouch/lip is replaced by a peculiar shaped third petal, and the synsepalum has split. The result is a more or less fully peloric flower. According to the owner this plant has bloomed normally for several seasons. And the first bud that opened on the inflorescence that developed in 2000 showed a normal flower. The flower shown in the photo is the second bud that opened. The flower that opened after that was again of normal shape and design.
