Phragmipedium lindleyanum (Schomburgk ex Lindley)Rolfe.
Characteristics : The taxa of the section Platypetalum are characterized by the differently shaped petals and sepals.
Species : This section of the genus Phragmipedium contains one to three species,
depending on the taxonomist. For example Leslie A. Garay (1979) recognizes three different species where as Lucile M. McCook (1989) only
sees one species (Phrag. lindleyanum). Others see two species and one variety. Olaf Gruss (2003) in his recent checklist of
the genus lowers sargentianum to the variety level which results in one species with two varieties. In this website I have followed this
view.
The one species and the two varieties can be distinguished by the shape of the staminode, the pouch and by the colouring of the leaves.
