Rediscovery of Selenipedium vanillocarpum.
In the first half of June 2001 there was good news. It is with great certainty that in Brazil a species of Selenipedium was rediscovered. We are talking about Selenipedium vanillocarpum. The plants were found in a mountainous area at a height of 700 meters above sea level in the State of Bahia.
The man who original found and described the species, Mr. Barbosa Rodrigues, never told where the plants were found. For his description he used a dried specimen.
Now that it is confirmed that it is Selenipedium vanillocarpum, the person who found it is returning to the site to take further detailed photos and hopefully brings home a living specimen which can be used for close study and propagation of the species.
